Specifications Introduction
NBS K41

The National Building Specification is published by NBS Services (part of RIBA Enterprises Ltd) is a library of clauses that is available to specifiers for selection and editing to produce project specifications using packages such as NBS Specification Manager.

Clause K41 covers raised access flooring and this forms the basis of the vast bulk of raised access flooring specifications in the UK.

The K41 specification and its associated Guidance Notes have for many years allowed raised access flooring to be specified almost exclusively in line with the performance requirements of the PSA MOB PF2 PS/SPU specification (learn more).

However the latest revision of the K41, May 2004 now allows specifiers to specify raised access flooring to the requirements of the European Standard EN 12825:2001 (learn more) specification for raised access floors which has the status of a British Standard.

With regard to product selection, the first decision to be made is one of which raised access flooring specification is to form the basis of the project specific K41 specification. Once this decision is made then the appropriate product can be selected to meet the project requirements.
